Song project
I’ve noticed a pattern in my creative process: I often get halfway through a project, then scrap it and chase a new idea. This happened with this song too. I originally set out to make something in the style of Daft Punk . Which is already hard to define because Daft Punk blends so many genres. I thought choosing a genre would be the hardest part, but the real challenge was finding balance: between layers, instruments, rhythm, and structure.
For both the scrapped idea and the final track, the early phase went smoothly. It’s always easy for me to feel the potential of a new idea. The difficult part is the “plateau,” where I get stuck and don’t know how to improve it. The first track clearly had rhythm issues, so I restarted. For the second version, I got feedback to make the bass more present, add some upstroke guitar, and mix it more like a ska-inspired track. This one leans a bit toward Doe Maar’s style, but instead of obsessing over matching a specific sound, I experimented freely and that made everything click.
I ended up with a song I would actually listen to myself. It’s repetitive in a hypnotic way, it immediately makes me want to move, and it has a groove that feels alive.
